Mankato could have a new internet and cable provider in the near future. MetroNet is looking to compete with Spectrum, Consolidated Communications and satellite-based providers in the area.

The city governments of North and Eagle Lake are also showing interest in bringing MetroNet to the greater Mankato area.

There still needs to be a formal agreement from the city council, which is the next big step for the city to sign a deal with MetroNet. The city manager says more available fiber for the business and commercial economy will be a “huge piece for us.”
